THE RIDE
Gravel bike with 40 mm+ tires. South past Latrun, up through the Ya'ar Kedoshim forest and Ramat Raziel, across to Ein Kobi, down the Tzur Hadassah descent, then Road 10 toward Beit Shemesh (a gradual downhill, quick) and back past Latrun.
Long forest climbs (Derech Nof Dromit is 11.5 km at 3.8%), Ramat Raziel at 6.6%, and one Israel Trail ramp that hits 15%. The descent from Ramat Raziel to Ein Kobi is the technical part. The Tzur Hadassah descent is long and fast.
PLAN THE DAY
Start at Kafit (Caffit) in Modi'in, or at the Eshtaol gas station at Tzomet Shimshon.
Open start pin ↗Open Eshtaol start pin ↗Eshtaol (Tzomet Shimshon gas station, also at the end), a water stop at the top of the gravel path before crossing the road, maybe water at the top of Ein Kobi before the Tzur Hadassah road, shops in Tzur Hadassah, food and water in Beit Shemesh, and Latrun both ways.
Best in spring and autumn. Avoid winter (mud) and summer (very hot). Allow 5.5 to 8 hours.
